The society builder in Kungälv using AI to grow

Nicklas Lagerberg of Elschakt is one of the first in the construction sector to use artificial intelligence in his tender work — creating opportunities for more projects.

For most construction firms, the tendering process looks much the same as it has for decades: manually reviewing tender documents, hand-calculating quantities, and spending hours in spreadsheets. It’s a time-consuming process that limits how many projects a company can bid on and, by extension, how fast it can grow.

Nicklas Lagerberg, owner and CEO of Elschakt i Kungälv AB, has decided to do things differently and embrace new technology. With the help of Brickanta, he can now streamline the entire tendering process.

“Instead of three jobs, we can now estimate twice as many. Which in turn means we win twice as many contracts. And that means we can have twice as many excavators in the fleet. All of it adds up to us gaining ground.”

Elschakt currently employs around 20 people and is well established in the Kungälv area. For Nicklas, investing in AI isn’t about replacing anyone, it’s about giving the company the capacity to take on more projects without having to scale the back office at the same pace.

The construction industry is one of Sweden’s largest sectors, but also one of the least digitised. While other industries have long since automated parts of their business processes, construction has largely relied on manual workflows. Nicklas Lagerberg is one of the first examples of that starting to change, and it’s starting in Kungälv.
